BGS World School, Chickballapur Students visit NIMHANS Brain Museum
The students of BGS World School, Chickballapur visited National Institute Mental Health and Neuro Sciences (NIMHANS), Bangalore, one of the premier institutions in India, recently along with their teachers. The visit was organized by Mrs Pallavi ….., the HOD, Department of Biology of the School. The other teacher who escorted 68 students of IX standard of the school for the day long visit was Mrs Suman Sharma.
During the visit, a brief presentation was given to the students by Miss Shwetha, one of the staff members of the institute, about the institution, its role and position in the field of Neuro Science as well as the museum to orient the students before she took them into the museum. She and her colleagues then took the students to all sections of the brain museum to see the models and specimens of brain and were explained about the brain cells. The students could see and touch different models to know more about the cells of the brain which they could not do in the school laboratory through the compound microscopes. They were given ample opportunities to ask questions and enrich their knowledge. The visit to the only brain museum in the country, proved to be very memorable and enriching to the students, as the students expressed. Following the visit, the students also visited the Sewage Treatment Plant of the campus which was also very educative for the students.
The school takes the students every year to this museum besides various other places of academic interest.
